Key Points:
Online brokerage firm eToro has announced that its European subsidiary, eToro (Europe) Ltd, has received a permit from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). This approval also enables eToro to provide crypto services across the European Union (EU) under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), pending notification to all member states.
Avi Sela, eToro’s Chief Operating Officer – Regulation, emphasized the company’s commitment to regulatory compliance and consumer protection. He stated, “As a multi-asset trading and investing platform, we appreciate the importance of regulation to protect consumers, support financial stability, facilitate transparency, and build trust.”
Sela further highlighted MiCA’s role in fostering greater crypto adoption across Europe by ensuring uniform market rules and greater investor awareness regarding potential risks. He expressed pride in eToro’s ability to offer regulated crypto services, reinforcing the company’s position as an early adopter in the crypto space.
Additionally, eToro has pioneered the crypto investment sector, introducing Bitcoin trading as early as 2013. The platform offers over 100 crypto assets and diverse investment options, including stocks, ETFs, indices, commodities, currencies, and thematic Smart Portfolios.
Moreover, by operating under MiCA and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), eToro enhances investor protection, transparency, and regulatory oversight. This ensures a safer and more reliable trading environment for its users across the EU.
In further demonstrating its dedication to security, eToro recently obtained the SOC 2 Type II Compliance Certification, with Grant Thornton awarding the firm the highest grade for operational excellence in crypto asset custody.
This latest regulatory approval positions eToro as a leading player in Europe’s evolving crypto market. It offers users regulated and secure access to digital assets while reinforcing trust in the broader crypto ecosystem.
